Job opportunities for millwrights are expected to grow more slowly than other occupations through the year 2014. Because millwrights will always be needed to maintain and repair existing machinery and install new equipment, millwrights should have many good job opportunities. Prospects will be best for millwrights with training in installing new technologies. Many job openings for millwrights will stem from the need to replace experienced millwrights who transfer to other occupations or retire.
In 2004, the national average hourly wage for millwrights were $21.02. The middle 50% earned between $16.53 and $27.07. The lowest 10% earned less than $13.02, and the highest 10% earned more than $32.17. Earnings vary greatly by geographic location.
